John Arcaro

John Arcaro taught Physical Educatio nat Baldwinsville High School for 32 years. As the first wrestling coach for Baldwinsville from 1955-1983, John compiled a record of 34-9. His 1963 team was the Onondaga North Champions and finished second in Section III.

John is perhaps best remembered in wrestling circles as an official. He was a Charter Member of the Syracuse and New York State Wresltling Officials Associations. He serverd the SWOA for 32 years as president, interpreter, and finally as assignor. John refereed numerous Section III Finals, the New York State Championships, and the Division III National Championships.

John also coached varsity football at Baldwinsville. His biggest contribution to scholastic athletics probably came as Boys Track Coach at Baldwinsville, where his record was 239-29. Not bad for a school without track! In 1981, John was honored by being named National Boys Track Coach of the Year.

John died in 1987, just before he was set to retire from teaching and coaching. The Syracuse Wrestling Officals Association has given the "John Arcaro Memorial Scholarship Award" in his honor each year since his untimely passing.
