GENE MEYLE

Chittenango Bears

 

Gen Meyle began his wrestling career at Chittenango High School where he was a four-year Varsity letter winner under Hall of Fame coach Bill Pashley. In his senior year at Chittenango wrestling at 154 lbs, he compiled a 21-1-1 record. Gene won a Tri-Valley Championship, CNY West League Title, and Chittenangos first ever Section III Wrestling crown.

In 1968, Gene became a member of the Syracuse Wrestling Officials Association. Gene has served as Secretary/Treasurer, two terms as President, and many years as a member of the Exective Committee until his retirement from officiating in 1996.

In his twenty-eight year officiating career, Gene worked more than one hundred of the top Christmas Tournaments and over five hundred dual meet tournaments, many of which were League Championships and Inter-Sectional matches. He officiated twenty-six Section III Class Tournaments, twenty-three Section III Finals, and eight New York State Championships. Gene was twice rated the #1 Official. Additionally, Gene refereed as a member of the Section V Wrestling Officials Association for nineteen years.

In 1999, Gene became the first recipient of the New York State Wrestling Officials Association Award for Excellence in Officiating.
