GEORGE PEAVEY

Madison Blue Devils

 

George Peavey's wrestling career began at Goshen High School. He continued to wrestle at Penn State, eventually becoming a graduate assistant for the Nittany Lions. George's scholastic coaching career started at his alma mater Goshen High School, before moving on to coach at both Madison and Oneida High Schools.

Currently, George is a volunteer Assistant Coach at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill. In addition to his coaching duties, George is a member of the Central New York Wrestling Officials Association and has been a Category One USA Wrestling Official since 1979. Coach Peavey served as a member on the Section III Wrestling Committee for several years and is a member and founding father of the Mohawk Valley Wrestling Club.

George tutored ten Section III Champions with eight place-finishers at the New York State Wrestling Tournament. Coach Peavey had five sons wrestle for him while at Madison High School. His son Keith was a sectional place finisher and went on to become an All-American at SUNY Brockport. Another son, Kurt, is a former Section III Champion and a New York State place-winner.

George Peavey's involvement in wrestling spans forty years. He is to be congratulated for his dedication to the sport of wrestling.
