Class of 2013
Carthage Comets
Randy Marrin and his lovely wife Julie live in Watertown, where they raised their two children, Brent (29) and Brianna (25). Randy graduated from Massena High School and attended SUNY Potsdam where he was a member of the wrestling team. After graduation, Randy began his elementary teaching career for the Carthage Central School District where he taught for the next 36 years. Within this time, starting in 76-77, he coached wrestling in some capacity for 32 of those years with 22 of them as head coach starting in 79-80.
The eighties were a trying, building, and learning time. With the help of dedicated pee wee, modified, and assistant coaches, parents, and overall community support, the program began to blossom in the nineties. Randy accumulated 196 wins during his tenure as head coach before stepping down in 2003. He again resumed assistant coaching duties under two of his former wrestlers until his retirement from teaching in 2010.
During his coaching tenure, Randy served as a representative for the Frontier League A division to Section III and for five years as Frontier League Chairman and member of the Section III Wrestling Committee. He coached 4 teams to Section III Class B and Frontier League A division titles. He coached 32 individual Frontier and Class champions, along with 4 Section III champions , 14 runner-ups and 3 state place finishers.
Randy wishes to thank the Section III Friends of Wrestling board and Section III Committee for this honor and all the Carthage wrestlers who made it happen.
