Mark Jones

Mark is a 1971 graduate of Scotia-Glenville High School where he played football and was a star wrestler under Coach Don Riddle for the Tartans. A four year starter Mark was a 1971 Section 2 Champion at 180 pounds.

Jones would then go to Boston University where he also competed in football and wrestling, Mark wrestled for 4 years while at B.U. and became a 2 time New England Regional Champion which qualified him to wrestle in the Division 1 National Championships in both of those years.

Mark then finished his education at SUNY Plattsburg earning his masters degree in Biology. He began his career in the plumbing and heating business for Ridgeway Mechanical and continued to work there for the next 20 years. During this time Marks passion for wrestling continued to burn so he decided to join the ranks of the referees where he became one of the most respected and professional referees in Section 2 as a member of the C.D.W.O.A. He executed a stellar career as a referee for 28 years and was selected to work at the N.Y.S.P.H.S.A.A. Wrestling Championships 7 times.

His most exiting match that he refereed was in the State championships where two wrestlers from section 8 and section 3 wrestled into overtime. This critical match was decided in the closing seconds of overtime with a come from behind victory.

Mark then felt called to teach and entered a career in education after working so many years in the trades. His first job as an educator was in the Northville school district for 3 years. Mark is now currently employed as the Middle school science teacher and modified wrestling coach at Johnstown middle school. He has been a proud asset of the Johnstown district for sixteen years. Mark plans on coaching for many more years while continuing to teach at Johnstown Middle School.

Mark is a member of the Scotia-Glenville High School Hall of Fame and in 2009 was inducted into the Section 2 Wrestling Hall of Fame.
