Art Hirt, teacher, coach, official and tireless reitred Section III Wrestling Chairman, ia a most desreving recipient of the Section III Hall of Fame.
After graduating from Ithaca College in 1959 and teaching downstate, Art came to Chittenango in 1964 as a physical education teacher and wrestling coach. He picked up the reins as Section III Wresting Chairman in 1977 from Reed Hawke. He has served as the officials coordinator for Section III, NYSPHSAA State Wrestling Committee and coordinator of the pass-gate for all Section III Carrier Dome events. He has received numerous Section III awards and in 1994, a Special Service Award.
Besides Art's many hours of dedicated service to wrestling, he has officiated football for 30 years, as well as soccer, wrestling, indoor and outdoor track. He is currently the Syracuse track assignor.
Art retired from active teaching and coaching in 1992, but is still involved in a multitude of Section III Activities. Thank You, Art, for your years of dedicated service to the wrestlers of Section III.
