YOU CAN HELP MAKE SECTION III WRESTLING BETTER!

On January 16th, 2008, the Friends of Section III Wrestling was formed. It is the goal of the Friends of Section III Wrestling to promote the sport of high school wrestling in the central new york area. Wrestling is a sport entirely unique to any other. The physical and emotional equivalent is unmatched by any other sport. It is our goal to ensure that these dedicated athletes receive the proper recognition that they have earned. Some of the things that we would like to accomplish are:

  • Provide awards such as medals, trophies or plaques to individual championship tournament placewinners in order to recognize athletic achievement and bring recognition to student athletes.
  • Provide championship awards in the form of a plaque or trophy to the sectional dual meet championship team to promote teamwork and work ethic.
  • Award championship apparel including t-shirts, sweatshirts, and golf shirts for the individual champions to recognize their superior athletic achievement.
  • Secure a venue for the home of the Section III Wrestling Hall of Fame to recognize the lifetime commitment to team, community, and sportsmanship.
  • Provide an award to the overall Coach of the Year in Section III as a reward for their dedication to the athletes they represent and the teamwork required to achieve such a lofty status.
  • Provide an award to the overall Wrestler of the Year in Section III as a reward for their season long dedication to their sport, their team, and their community.
  • Provide an award to the team that displays the best overall sportsmanship throughout the wrestling season.
  • Sponsor a post-season banquet for all Section III Wrestling placewinners, coaches and parents. This would be a reward indicative of their dedication to their team, their sport, their community, and their family.
  • Award a financial scholarship to the wrestler that best demonstrates dedication on the wrestling mat, the classroom, and in the local community. The deserving athlete will demonstrate a commitment to sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline and community.

In the time since the formation of the Friends of Section III Wrestling, we have already accomplished many of our goals. Of course, these goals must be matched or exceeded with each new wrestling season.

  • A few years ago, from a donation from local wrestling entusiasts, championship wrestlers were awarded medals at the sectional wrestling tournament. We will continue on in this tradition by providing the championship awards beginning in the 2010-11 season.
  • We awarded the dual meet tournament championship team with championship apparel.
  • We have secured a permanent home for the Section III Wrestling Hall of Fame. More details on that in the coming months.
  • We held our first post season awards banquet, where we awarded coach and wrestler of the year trophies for both division one and division two.

In addition to those goals being met, we also accomplished a few other things:

  • Conducted our first wrestling clinic
  • Provided funding for the gym lighting at the Section III Duals
  • Purchased the ID badges for the wrestlers at the Section III Championship Tournament

We'll continue to assist with any endeavor that advances the sport of wrestling in Section III.

We feel the our goals are very aggressive and we are well aware of the work and dedication required to raise the funds to meet our goals. We are all very committed to this organization and the goals laid out before us. To that end, WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOUR HELP!
