Bill Fariel

Class of 1996
Oneida Express
Bill served Section III as its liaison to the National Federation of Interscholastic Coaches Association as well as the New York State Coaches Association.

Bill was an outstanding coach and athletic director. He provided great leadership in the Tri-Valley League and in Section III. Bill was especially interested and provided his expertise in both football and wrestling. He was a driving force in making the Tri-Valley League one of the best and most respected leagues in the section and the state.

Most important, and probably Bill's greatest legacy, was as a result of his organization and direction of the Madison-Oneida BOCES Coaches Certification courses. Through Bill's tireless efforts, hundreds of men and women satisfied the state requirements necessary to coach athletic teams in schools across New York State.

Bill was born and raised in East Irvington and lived in Oneida for 42 years. He graduated from Springfield College and received his masters degree from Syracuse University.

Rocky Valentine, Athletic Director and close friend of Bill's at Oneida High School, was quoted as saying "Bill Fariel was one of the most ethical, professional, honest people I've ever been in contact with. His dedication to the Oneida City School District was beyond words."

Section III President Frank DiChristina stated "My dear friend Bill epitomized what coaching is all about. He was the type of coach that every parent wishes for his kids team."

The truth is, Bill was the "the Best". He will always be remembered as one who dedicated his whole life as a role model for kids and colleagues alike. Being the best was his legacy and we him a great deal!
