Hunter Richard

Class of 2023
Holland Patent Golden Knights, Cornell University
Hunter Richard graduated from Holland Patent in 2017. He wrestled for the historic coach John Richard, his father. Hunter was a six-year varsity starter, six-time Section 3 place finisher, five-time Section Three finalist, four-time Section Three Champion, four-time NYS place finisher, and a three-time NYS Champion. Throughout his varsity career he compiled a record of 265 wins and 28 losses, the Holland Patent school record and the second most total wins in Section 3 history. Hunter was also a member of the Mohawk Valley Wrestling Club. He represented the club nationally by becoming a Fargo, NHSCA, and Flo-Nationals All-American. Additionally, Hunter represented the club globally competing in Amsterdam, Estonia, and Finland.

Hunter continued his wrestling career at Cornell University where he was a three-year starter and compiled a 67-23 record. He was a two-time EIWA place winner and two-time NCAA D1 qualifier. Hunter had his breakout season during his junior year in 2020, where he was 25-10 and ranked 20th nationally at 149 lbs. He was the EIWA runner-up, an All-Ivy League team selection, and an Academic All-American, and an NCAA qualifier that season; however, the NCAA D1 Championships were canceled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Prior to his senior season, Hunter was elected as a team captain for the Cornell Big Red. He helped lead Cornell to an Ivy League Team Championship, EIWA Team Championship, and a 7th place team finish at the NCAA D1 Championships. To cap-off his senior season, Hunter won three bouts to advance to the round of 16 at the NCAA Championships, where he lost to the returning NCAA Champion from North Carolina. During his tenure at Cornell, his team won three Ivy League Championships, were two-time runners-up, one-time EIWA Team Champions, and had 3 top 10 finishes at the NCAA Championships. Hunter received the Andy Noel Leadership Award and was selected as one of the top 25 Senior 2022 athletes for Cornell University. He graduated from Cornell University in 2022 with a bachelor's degree in Economics and a minor in finance.

After graduating from Cornell, Hunter relocated to Dallas, Texas to work for Clarion Partners, one of the largest real estate investment companies in the world. Outside of work, Hunter still finds the time to continue his passion for wrestling helping coach the local high-school team in Highland Park, TX.
