Doug Hartman

Class of 2009
East Syracuse-Minoa Spartans
Following his graduation from Cortland State in 1971, Doug Hartman began his teaching and coaching career in the East Syracuse-Minoa Central School District. Doug coached at the modified, freshman and junior varsity levels for eleven seasons.

In 1983, Doug was named head coach of the East Syracuse-Minoa varsity wrestling program. During his 25-year varsity coaching career, he guided seven New York State Place finishers, nine Section III Champions and 25 Class Champions. His Spartan teams won three Class AA tourney titles and three League Championships. Doug retired with an impressive 308 Dual Meet victories.

Doug always wanted to win, but never put winning above teaching life lessons to his wrestlers and students. He created an "Integrity First" atmosphere at East Syracuse, never losing sight of the teaching aspect in his role as a coach.

In 1990, Doug was named a Department Leader in the ES-Ms Physical Education Department. In 2002, he became an administrator at the high school, and continued with his coaching duties until his retirement in 2007.

Doug and his wife Deb have been married for 36 years. They are proud parents of two grown children, Julie and Jeff.
