Longtime Post-Star sportswriter Pete Tobey was inducted into the Section 2 Wrestling Hall of Fame at the Friends of Section 2 Wrestling banquet in Albany.
A Saratoga Springs native, Tobey has covered Section 2 wrestling since the 1989-90 season, beginning at The Saratogian while still in college. He continued his wrestling coverage at The Recorder in Amsterdam before arriving in Glens Falls in 2001.
While not a wrestler himself in high school, Tobey absorbed everything he could about the scoring, strategies and history of high school wrestling. That information served him well as he went on to cover two generations of high school wrestlers in Section 2.
Tobey has covered 28 of the last 30 Section 2 wrestling tournaments the exceptions being the 1991 and 92 meets while he was attending Plattsburgh State and 20 state tournaments. He has covered several state champions and multiple state place-finishers. A fastidious record-keeper, Tobey has also built lists of past Section 2 and classification tournament champions and results.
Over a nearly 30-year career, Tobey has covered all manner of high school, college and minor-league sports, from football and basketball to auto racing and ice hockey.
