This week's Section 2 Match of the Week is the Glens Falls Indians traveling down the short drive on Route 32 to visit the Hudson Falls Tigers. For the first time in many years the Foothills Council is going to be decided by a match between the Indians and the Tigers. Both teams have gone undefeated so far this year in the Council at 5-0.

The two teams met once earlier this year at the Ballston Spa Duals when both teams had some wrestlers out and Hudson Falls prevailed at that time 42-34 on a last match pin by Sean Heaney.

The Indians (8-6) will be looking for redemption this week as they are led by several number 1 ranked wrestlers in the Section with Avi Berg (102) and Skyler Sturdevant (160). Also having good seasons in Glens Falls are Ayden Grieve (145), Eli Johnson (152), Connor Wright (189) and Gavin Williams (215).

For the Tigers (13-3) they have been led this season by wrestlers Justin Mulls (102), Colin Diffee (118), Gavin Krywy (118), Dom Doyle (126), Ethan Nolan (138), Sean Heaney (152), Jesse Mulls (172) and Mike Sullivan (215). On paper it looks like the edge should be with the Top Five Ranked Tigers but the Glens Falls Indians have already shown they are ready for an upset this year!

[Section III News] xx Syracuse Silver Hawks Rugby
January 27, 2022, 07:25:30 AM by webmstr
The Syracuse Silver Hawks have been around since 2005 and are committed to building a top-notch program. We compete against teams from Buffalo, Rochester, Grand Island, Corning and Albany.  We also try to schedule a scrimmage against a down state team.  Last year, we had three Upstate NY All-Stars.  And, we are sending five kids to France this summer to train in a rugby camp there.  The flyer also mentions our new college scholarship program.

We practice three days a week - usually from 500-630 pm or 530-700 pm.  We are currently zeroing in on practice locations.  It is possible that we will practice at the Carrier Dome from mid-March to mid/late-April.  Then we will hit the fields at O'Connor Park, located at the corner of Velasko Road and Onondaga Boulevard (across from Western Lights Plaza)  This has been our home field for years.

All of our coaches are USA Rugby certified and we teach safe, rugby tackling.  This is a great sport for all wrestling athletes.  Our wrestling connection has been strong over the years.  Notable recent Silverbacks include Tyriq Block from Solvay - a section 3 champion wrestler.

Please spread the word.  Anyone can contact me - and (315) 506-9645 - for more information.
