Dana Charpentier

Dana Charpentier played baseball and football for Hudson Falls when he began wrestling in 1964 under Hall of Fame coach Thomas Chickanis in the Tigers inaugural wrestling season. By his second season in 1965 Dana would be a runner up in the Section 2 tournament to his cousin Al Charpentier at 103 Lbs. He would make the semi-finals in 1966 and then be a runner-up again in the section II finals of 1967 at 136 Lbs. to South High's Gary McGuffin.

After graduating from Hudson Falls, Charpentier would go to Adirondack Community College from 1972-1974 where he played varsity softball, soccer and wrestled. Dana was the Mountain and Valley Collegiate Conference Wrestling Champion @ 150 lbs. It was during this time that Charpentier began his officiating career, in 1973 when he joined the Capital District Wrestling Officials Association (CDWOA).

Dana would continue his education at Castleton State (University), VT from 1974-1976 where he also played varsity baseball. During this time he also became the JV wrestling coach for Whitehall Central. Charpentier continued his graduate work at the College of St. Rose, Plattsburgh State and Albany State.

Taking a job in North Warren as a teacher in 1976, Dana would coach Baseball, Softball and Soccer and start the wrestling club there. In 1981 Charpentier would go back to his alma mater Hudson Falls as a teacher and would coach the varsity wrestling Tigers from 1981 to 1985. He would also coach the modified team at South Glens Falls from 2009 to 2015.

Charpentier would excel as a wrestling official in Section 2 over his 40 years of service. He would be a CDWOA President, Vice President and Rules Interpreter. Dana would be ranked as one of the top wrestling officials and would be a 7 time NYS tournament referee, 2 times rated number 2 and 5 times rated in the top 6.

Dana would be an Evaluator at the State Tournament in 1994 and 2009 and was named the 1997 Section 2 Official of the Year. He was a 2012 Section 2 Coaches Association Award winner as a long time contributor to Section 2 Wrestling. He won the 2013 NYSWOA Officials Service Award. Dana was named the 2012 Darwin Weller Spirit Award winner and the 2015 Roxanne Weller Wrestling Award winner. In 2015 Dana was inducted into the Section 2 Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Dana has been married for 30 years to his lovely wife, Cynthia. They have two sons, Derrick and Aaron, a daughter-in-law (Jessica) as well as two granddaughters (Mattingly and Scarlett). Dana continues to Substitute teach in various schools, and he continues to be active in Section 2 wrestling by serving as a Board Member for Friends of Section 2 Wrestling.
