Class of 2023

Kyle James was a product of the Niskayuna wrestling program. He started wrestling at the modified level with Coach Jack Prest. He worked his way through the program and became one of the most dominant wrestlers of the mid 1990s. He surfaced in his Sophomore year in 1993 as a Section 2 Class A Champion, Section 2 Champion and placed 4th in the NYS Championships.

His Junior year James repeated as a Class A Champion, Section 2 Champion and placed 2nd at the NYS Championships. Kyle Completed his scholastic career by running the gauntlet after going 41-0 by winning another Class A Championship, Section 2 Championship and became a NYS Champion at 138lbs in 1995. The three time section champion had placed in the top 4 in the State Tournament three times. Kyle ended his high school career with a record of 133 wins, 16 loses, and 1 tie. James twice was honored with the DeMeo Award for top wrestler in Section 2 in both 1994 and 1995. Kyle credits his outstanding wrestling career to his coaches, Coach Jack Prest, Coach Kevin Rockefeller, Coach Frank Popolizio, Coach Joe Bena, and Coach Joe DeMeo at ATWA, as well as a bunch of great teammates.
